Stuttgart, 10 October 2017 | Munich-based robotics startup Magazino has won the “handling award 2017”. During the award ceremony at the MOTEK trade fair in Stuttgart, Magazino was awarded first prize in the automation and robotics category. Lukas Zanger, one of the three founders of Magazino and COO, accepted the award in the foyer of Messe Stuttgart. Magazino was awarded for the development of the mobile picking robot TORU. From 68 entries, the jury this year selected the winners in a total of four categories — Magazino GmbH prevailed against 28 competitors in its category.
The intelligent robot TORU can pick individual objects from the shelving using artificial intelligence and 3D computer vision. Thanks to numerous sensors, the robot can work parallel to the human in the same work area, thus enabling flexible automation of previously manual work steps. The robot is already being used by several customers, including FIEGE Logistik in Ibbenbüren. Here, the TORU robot commissions shoes ordered online for the end customer. At Sigloch Distribution in Blaufelden, on the other hand, the robots pick individual books from shelves.
For the fourth time now, the handling editorial team has presented the “handling award”. The competition is aimed at all manufacturers in the field of mechanical, electrical and mechatronic solutions for factory automation and the optimisation of internal processes. The event addresses technologies in the field of handling technology, assembly and linear systems, hoists, industrial trucks, transport and conveyor systems, warehouse technology, intralogistics, logistics software, warehouse logistics, identification systems/RFID, drives and automation components.
