Mag­a­zino wins Han­dling Award 2017

Stuttgart, 10 Octo­ber 2017 | Munich-based robot­ics startup Mag­a­zino has won the “han­dling award 2017”. Dur­ing the award cer­e­mony at the MOTEK trade fair in Stuttgart, Mag­a­zino was awarded first prize in the automa­tion and robot­ics cat­e­gory. Lukas Zanger, one of the three founders of Mag­a­zino and COO, accepted the award in the foyer of Messe Stuttgart. Mag­a­zino was awarded for the devel­op­ment of the mobile pick­ing robot TORU. From 68 entries, the jury this year selected the win­ners in a total of four cat­e­gories — Mag­a­zino GmbH pre­vailed against 28 com­peti­tors in its category.

The intel­li­gent robot TORU can pick indi­vid­ual objects from the shelv­ing using arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence and 3D com­puter vision. Thanks to numer­ous sen­sors, the robot can work par­al­lel to the human in the same work area, thus enabling flex­i­ble automa­tion of pre­vi­ously man­ual work steps. The robot is already being used by sev­eral cus­tomers, includ­ing FIEGE Logis­tik in Ibben­büren. Here, the TORU robot com­mis­sions shoes ordered online for the end cus­tomer. At Sigloch Dis­tri­b­u­tion in Blaufelden, on the other hand, the robots pick indi­vid­ual books from shelves.
